Lack of health insurance continues to be one of the biggest concerns Americans face. There are millions who go without. The costs are in a seemingly never-ending upward spiral.

A bill filed in Washington may not be the answer, but it certainly deserves an objective, nonpartisan look.

Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn is one of five authors of the “Every American Insured Health Act,” which would provide every American with a refundable, advance flat tax credit of $2,160 per individual and $5,400 per family that gives them the freedom to choose the health care plan that best meets their needs.

The plan provides an avenue to ensure all Americans have health care coverage, thereby reducing the number of uninsured Americans and lowering health care costs for all citizens.

The proposal gives every American the right and resources to purchase health care in the free market and encourages individuals to take control of their own health.

This plan also will encourage individuals to take control and become smart about their health insurance, eliminate the current cost shift in the health care market that drives ups costs for everyone and ensure peace of mind about affordable, high-quality health insurance for all Americans.

Much of the debate on uninsured Americans seems to be focused on socialized medicine. It's a decent idea in theory, but it has never worked very well in any country that uses it.

This new bill offers exciting possibilities that could really help solve the problem citizens have in finding quality health insurance at an affordable rate.
