VA prepares to purchase iPads, iPhones

The Veterans Affairs Department plans to equip about 1,000 employees with Apple iPads and iPhones next month and then gradually increase that number.

Employees will need to show a strong business case that having a mobile device is necessary to get work done, said VA Chief Information Officer Roger Baker. Current mobile device users will be among the first candidates to receive the devices, but they will have to trade in their laptops or BlackBerrys. Currently, VA supports about 17,000 BlackBerrys.
